Preserving and Modernizing Vital Community Affordable Housing

WinnCompanies, IBF Development and the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, are preparing to renovate the Ladrey Senior High Rise, modernizing the 57-year-old building and property to provide a better quality of life for hundreds of senior and disabled residents in the decades to come.
Expected to be completed in 2027, the comprehensive rehabilitation will deliver approximately 150 modern and affordable apartments for senior and disabled households, serving a mix of incomes. Significant upgrades will be made to the interior and exterior spaces and building systems.
The modernization effort will undertake a top-to-bottom overhaul of the 11-story building, creating new and improved amenity spaces, reconfiguring floor plans for increased accessibility and additional unit types, installing high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, improving the building envelope, and upgrading outdoor spaces and connections to the surrounding neighborhood.
The renovated high-rise will better align with modern community standards, including accessible sidewalks, upgraded streetscape and stormwater management. It will also preserve a vital source of affordable housing in the high-cost, sought-after Old Town North area, helping preserve the neighborhood's vibrancy and diversity.
The renovated community will be managed by WinnResidential, the property management arm of WinnCompanies, which plans to deliver community-based services, programs and resource coordination aimed at creating positive, measurable outcomes for residents.
